Is having a blackberry better than a motorola phone with boostmobile or is it the same crappy service?

i have the motorola i465 and i dont get messages sometimes so i thought that maybe the blackberry for boostmobile would be better since it's a 3g phone? someone with some experience let me knoww! so i can switch before i go to college which is in 2 weeks|||3G doesn't have to do with texting, it has to do with data (internet on your phone). boost mobile is a part of sprint's network, so it sucks at times.
